STEP Motorsport secured two fifth places in the Danish Endurance Championship final at Padborg Park with Silas Rytter behind the wheel. These results mark the end of a learning and successful debut season in motorsport.
Despite a challenging start to the weekend, Silas Rytter maximized the performance of the car under sometimes difficult conditions. The qualifying session for the first race was shortened after a competitor went off track, meaning the northern Jutland driver never managed to set a competitive lap time. However, he made up for it in the next qualifying session, where he was sixth fastest.
Saturday’s race took place on dry asphalt, and with Denmark’s longest straight, the lightweight Ginetta G40 GT5 struggled against more powerful competitors. Nevertheless, Silas Rytter crossed the finish line in a commendable fifth place in his class.
More impressive than the position was the race pace displayed by the 16-year-old racer. Throughout large parts of the race, he recorded nearly identical lap times, and he also managed to break his own personal lap record for Padborg Park. This suggests that the training has paid off.
After a season where most races took place without spectators at the track, STEP Motorsport welcomed a selection of Silas Rytter’s sponsors and guests to enjoy motorsport in true autumn weather on Sunday. The rain had an impact on Sunday’s heat, where Silas again secured a fifth place. The conditions were tough, and several factors hindered a better result.
Silas Rytter reflects on a season filled with learning, experience, and good moments on the Danish tracks:
-It has been a good season, and although we have had to compete against cars with more power and better grip than ourselves, we have managed to earn trophies several times. I have had fun and learned a lot along the way, so I am quite satisfied.
As team manager, Morten Dons has also learned along the way, and he is pleased to see the development that Silas has undergone throughout the season:
-No matter what experience you have in the background, you learn a lot from running a team focused on young talents. It has been a good season, where results have been achieved based on serious effort and stable performance. We have completed all races except one, where we were hit, so it’s hard to be dissatisfied, says Morten Dons, who also has positive words for Silas Rytter’s transition from karting to racing:
-It’s clear to see how Silas has grown with the task throughout the season’s races. He has improved significantly, and if he can continue this development, he will be interesting to follow on the foreign tracks, says Morten Dons.
